Something that really bugs me when I commission my characters with black hair is that people give them extremely saturated dark red hair instead of black?? Idk it happens SOOOO often, even when it's just a dark brown it's SUPER DUPER red?? No offence if you've done this before when I've commissioned you, but I'm just so surprised? Is drawing black hair really that hard? ; o ;

That's my theory as well, that people colorpick n stuff, but then again my references should be enough? I think it's cause it looks a lot more contrast-y with more color in it?? But then again I'm a big fan of dull colors rather than super vibrant "shiny" stuff, which I guess happens when you go for more colorful happy sparkly styles!!

Yeah... there are ways to stay with very black hair and still have super shiny colourful looking art... but you need to have more knowledge about colour. Relying on colour picking is a huge weakness in art. Because colours don't just stay the same. What looks pink with one background colour can look green on another background. Learning to see the overall colour is most important.

I often go for a really desaturated grey with faint inclusion of different colors depending on the other colors in the drawing!! :0 But mostly it's some sort of variation of a very VERY faint red!!

totally agreed. The dark red fits more for a brown or red haired person.
Sometimes when i'm drawing art for myself i play a little with the colors so they might end up a little bit different than the original character, but when it comes to commissions i always try to stay true to the original character's colors. Even doe some people don't mind if the artist plays a little bit around the colors (depending on the artist's style).

Yes of course! What im talking about is this:

How I draw black hair often depends on the lightning of course, but if it's just a transparent background and the hair looks that red, I just get really sad!!<//3

Oh... :\ it doesn't look anywhere close to black... I wonder why they do that...maybe just for extra detail? Sorry :(

This is how I'd normally do black hair: (I know it's bad)

They should add more shine instead of using a different color, or blend it in better so it still looks black. I love black hair too, I wish it wasn't so difficult.
(I have no right to tell them how to do it though, they are all definitely better than me, I'm sure XD)

YEAH CUZ LIKE !! THEIR HAIR ISNR RED, IT'S BLACK!!! I think its because people want to have a lot of details in it and just end up in more saturated tones cause it's maybe easier to make details, but even then, you could desaturate it afterwards? ; - ; I do find it very disheartening, I think black hair is beautiful and most of my characters have black hair, so seeing my characters without it makes me a bit sad ; - ; and its VERY hard for me to ask the artist to change it, like sksjkskflgmh idk it's just hard...
